Come with us on a tour of a modern family house in Bloemandaal, the Netherlands, by Amsterdam firm Paul de Ruiter Architects. Naturally lit, free-flowing spaces are anchored by ingenious built-in storage to create a home as beautiful as it is functional.

The ground floor is arranged as an open layout.

Sleek cabinets and an island anchor the kitchen space.

Open and closed storage made from veneered plywood sections off open areas and private spaces.

Sliding glass doors lead to the private quarters in the back.

A diagonal wall shows where the house is built into the hill.

The back of the kitchen cabinets serve as a partition and as a surface for hanging posters.

Industrial galvanized metal stairs compliment the polished concrete floors.

A skylight fills the stairwell with natural light.

A thick plywood wall sections off the second floor living area.

Built-in shelving is installed above the sofa.

Cabinets and shelving can be hidden away via sliding doors.

In the main bedroom, the headboard provides additional storage.

A bed and a desk are built out from closet space in the children's room.

A basement garage sits below the entry level.

At night, the house's layout is on full view.
