A hotel for homebodies: The Laslett in Notting Hill, London, feels like home only better. Housed in five interconnected Victorian townhouses, the hotel has an eclectic vibe: Prints by local artists line the walls, neighbors drop by for coffee, a vintage bar cart makes the rounds each night, and stacks of well-loved Penguin Classics can be found on every nightstand. Here’s a look inside.

Above: Named for a Notting Hill community activist, the Laslett is inspired by the vibrancy of the neighborhood. Tom Bartlett (of London architecture and interiors firm Waldo Works) partnered with Tracy Lowy of UK “hotel alternative” company Living Rooms to create spaces that “celebrate the characterful and cultural heritage” of Notting Hill—starting with open-to-the-public common areas. Seen here: the library, where floating shelves are “brimming with British art and design books.”
Above: Each of the 51 guest rooms includes local touches: vintage finds from nearby Portobello Market, bespoke Imo benches and bedside tables by London design company Pinch Design (see our post Pinch Design: Almost Bespoke Armoires), and textiles by Eleanor Pritchard. (We’re currently awaiting Pritchard’s forthcoming collection.)
Above: Rooms and suites feature antiques from collector Jerome Dodd, who recently held a pop-up shop of his objets d’art in the lobby. (Dodd’s shop, Les Couilles du Chien, is a cult favorite on Portobello Road.) The cast iron Gil Lamps on the bedside tables are an original design created for The Laslett by Nocturne Workshop; £560 ($699) each.
Above: Guest rooms feature a mix of patterns, dashes of orange, and curated gallery walls of local artists’ work, all styled by fashion industry creative director Ben Kelway.
Above: The light-filled bathroom in a master bedroom suite. On a ledge by the soaking tub: organic skin care and shampoo by London-based Neal’s Yard Remedies.
Above: Dining nooks are furnished with Classic BA Dining Chairs by Race Furniture, a World War II–era English design company specializing in theater seating.
Above: In the lobby, behind large-scale French doors, is a small gift shop. The couch is the Noelle Sofa by Pinch Design. (Available via room service: vintage stockings by Mrs. Miller, “a nod to cheeky Brit humor.”)
Above: Tucked behind a matching set of black-framed glass doors is the cement-topped Henderson Bar. The lounge serves a selection of breakfast goods by morning and classic cocktails by night.
Above: Also on offer: afternoon tea. The chairs are a riff on a Prouvé Fauteuil design; see Vitra for options.
Above: A vintage cocktail trolley offers bespoke cocktails during the early evening hours; during off hours, it’s a welcome focal point in the lobby.
Above: Another view of the library and breakfast nook.
Above: The library is anchored by another of Pinch Design’s no-fuss Noelle sofas, this time in a deep charcoal.
Above: The Laslett’s posh exterior belies its inner quirk.
