We’re familiar with Semihandmade, the company that specializes in stylish cabinet fronts for Ikea base cabinets (see a few of their kitchen projects here and here). Recently, they wrote to share news of a new launch—BOXI, an online design store for cabinets and fronts. We’re intrigued, especially after seeing what renovation experts Barry Bordelon and Jordan Slocum (of the Brownstone Boys) have done with BOXI’s products.
The two designers leveraged the convenience of BOXI’s online ordering to quickly overhaul a couple’s bedroom. Their parlor-floor condo had all the hallmarks of a classic Brooklyn brownstone—high ceilings, ornate plaster moldings, pocket doors, marble fireplaces—but an unfortunate renovation in the 1970s had marred the space with odd faux finishes. Barry and Jordan’s solution: restore the original details and juxtapose them with modern, clean-lined elements.
They chose BOXI’s line of cabinets and fronts to construct a wall of streamlined closets in the main bedroom. “We wanted the closet to have a built-in look with a modern contrast to the original features. We didn’t want to build a traditional closet into the space because it would interfere with the very ornate plaster moulding on the ceiling. BOXI was the perfect solution for this closet project.”
Let’s take a look at the impressive results.
