German company SieMatic is known for its sleek, high-end kitchens. (See Remodelista posts on them here and here.) But what we’re admiring on The Organized Home today is not the chic look of the kitchens but the attention to smartly engineered storage—in particular, the MultiMatic interior accessories line, a system made up of trays, rails, and other storage accessories attached to two tracks that are mounted to the inside of a cabinet or pantry door. By taking advantage of vertical surfaces for additional storage, SieMatic says, you can gain up to 30 percent more space.
We’re completely on board with this idea. In our book Remodelista: The Organized Home we show a variety of storage accessories you could mount to the inside of a cupboard door, from paper towel holders to pot and pan lid organizers. What’s so nice about the MultiMatic solution, though, is its full-door, multi-accessories system.
Steal This Look
SieMatic’s price point is out of most people’s comfort zone, but that doesn’t mean you can’t mimic the idea in your own kitchen. ClosetMaid has an 8-Compartment Over-the-Door Adjustable Basket Organizer that sells for just $39.98 at Home Depot and requires no drilling, and Bed, Bath & Beyond sells the Premium Over-the-Door Steel Frame Pantry Organizer by .ORG for $79.99.
But the Container Store’s Elfa Utility line has the most—and most attractive—options. We especially like its pantry door racks with mesh accessories. You can buy each Elfa part separately (priced from $9.99 to $24.99 each), or you can purchase whole systems (the mesh door rack sets are priced from $115.91 to $185.78).
