Laundry Room Solutions: Three Clean-Lined Designs from Down Under

There’s a lot to admire designwise coming out New Zealand of late, but how to explain their particular knack for stylish laundry rooms? Kiwis, it seems, know how to keep it clean. At least that’s the case, judging from:

Here are our latest favorite laundry designs from down under: three setups created by Auckland-based Homestyle magazine featuring appliances from Fisher & Paykel—which, not coincidentally, is a New Zealand company. Using simple layouts and storage, each presents ideas for how to “make the practical pretty.” Homestyle art director Juliette Wanty says, “The laundry is the workhorse of your home and should enjoy the same design consideration as other parts of the dwelling,”

The Laundry Closet

Above: Sliding plywood doors partition off this compact laundry. A ceiling-mounted drying rack, the Sylph, $249 NZD, from I’ll Hang It Here, makes clever use of otherwise unused ceiling space. The washing machine is the Fisher & Paykel Aqua Smart Top Loader. The sink is an American Standard similar to the Loft Collection Counter Sink with a Parisi Envy Basin Mixer tap. The Multiuse Laundry Room

Above: Set in a tiled back entry, this room serves as mudroom, laundry space, and potting station. The white laminate counter works as a place to fold clothes and pot plants. Plywood cabinets and wall-mounted shelves provide storage for supplies.

The Curtained Laundry
