The Oak Men are not characters from a German children’s story but rather two Danish cabinetmakers, Anders Buchtrup Jensen and Peter Heinsberg, with an enthusiasm for oak (solid oak, smoked oak, black oiled oak). In their workshop in Brabrand, Denmark—a town close to Arhaus—Anders and Peter design only furniture and goods that they themselves would buy and use. Here’s a selection from their collection, available online through The Oak Men.
Above: The variation in color comes from the treatment of the oak. Shown here are trays and kitchen goods in solid, oiled, and smoked oak.
Above: The Mortar & Pestle has a handle for control while bashing herbs and spices. It’s made of untreated oak and should be rubbed with olive oil before its first use; 499 KR ($75 USD).
Above: The Flip Tray comes in three sizes—shown here in medium—and has a linoleum base on one side and oak on the other; 749 KR ($113 USD).
Above: The Oak and Green Glass Lantern is made of solid oak and a handmade glass shade and comes with a dimmer and bulb; 1,199 KR ($182 USD).
Above: The Log Lamp in White is a simple bulb light in solid oak and also comes on a dimmer; 1,199 KR ($182 USD).
Above: Square Trays in three sizes and in both solid and black oiled oak are good for the kitchen or the office; starting at 199 KR ($30 USD) for the smallest tray.
