We enjoy the hunt for obscure new stores and still-unknown artisans and makers, but sometimes well-made, good-looking products are right under our noses—to the right of Au Bon Pain and the left of J. Crew—at the local mall. Here, 10 small storage pieces from Crate & Barrel that we wouldn’t mind bringing into our homes. Not one bit.
Above: We like the handcrafted look of the Marin Utensil Holder. Made in Portugal, it’s $24.95. Above: A definite upgrade from the cookie jars of yesteryear, the matte black steel Clark Canisters have acacia wood lids with gaskets; $24.95 to $39.95. Above: Despite its name, the French Kitchen Marble Tray would look just as at home in the bath, corralling bath essentials; $39.95. Above: Wusthof’s 17-Slot Knife Knife Block comes in five different woods, but we like the black elm wood best; $49.95. Above: Many retailers now carry Steele laundry hampers; we like this one from Crate & Barrel for its slim profile and industrial sturdiness. The Steele Vertical Laundry Cart is $129.95. Above: If you still have a plastic laundry basket, time to trade it in for a better-looking one made from natural materials. This Wicker Laundry Basket fits the bill; $34.95. Above: Ladders used as storage tend to have a rustic look; the Jackson Black Towel Ladder has a more modern appeal. Fabricated from iron, it’s $199.95. Above: Crate & Barrel bought Land of Nod a while back and has since folded the kids’ products into a department called Crate & Kids, which is where we found this Hanging Storage Organizer. Yes, it’s great for rounding up toys, but it would also work in an entryway or mudroom, organizing accessories, mail, sunblock, bug spray, and more; $29. Above: Another find from the Crate & Kids department, the Beaumont Wall Rack, shown in gray, is streamlined and simple—perfect for a small entry. It can hold up to 100 pounds; $139. Above: The sleek Pilsen File Cabinet, shown in Salt, is $199.
