Architects: Solveig Fernlund and Neil Logan Photography by Matthew Williams
Commissioned to remodel an 1840's Brooklyn brownstone, architects Solveig Fernlund and Neil Logan transformed the first floor into the beating heart of the house. Take a tour of the custom-built kitchen, as well as the ingenious staircase.
The kitchen work area features cabinets of laminated Douglas fir.
Striped edges of plywood are married to the stainless steel countertop.
A large custom cabinet sections off the kitchen from the entryway.
The cabinet knobs are custom made of Douglas fir.
A Sub Zero refrigerator is tucked into the end closest to the sink.
Built-in shelving was designed for glassware.
The other side of the cabinet is divided into open shelves.
A coat closet divider sections the front entryway.
The living area is used for practicing and playing music.
The staircase has open risers custom made from old floor joists.
A picnic dining table is used for art projects as well as dinner parties.
Rising from the back of the kitchen, the stair presents a dramatic V-shaped profile.
The staircase rail is wrapped in Spinneybeck leather.
